Where To From Here

"Where to From Here"

30 x 15 x 3/4", Oil on Stretched Canvas

I painted with Nancy Medina at her home studio, the Flower Mound Studio, with three very helpful studio assistants, Howie, Java and Annie. Painting together with Nancy was fantastic on many levels - first it was New Year's Day - that must mean that I'll be doing something I enjoy for the rest of the year. And it was nice to discuss art, talk about different paints, mediums, substrates, recipes and general brainstorming. And oh! oh! oh! Nancy's husband Carlos made cups of coffee for me as well as a fantastic quiche lunch! Now that! was a real treat.

I did get a good bit of the painting above done at her studio. I titled it "Where to From Here" because it is a new year's painting - so where do we go from here? Time to think about what we'll be doing this year.

A Driving Experience

"I - 20"
6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board
SOLD
Hadn't posted on the blog in a little while as I took a little vacation. As you might see by the painting above- I drove Eastward on I-20.
While on vacation: My little pet portrait won an award at the Unconditional Love 1st Annual Juried Pet Portrait exhibit at the Irving Art Association. Nancy Medina was my stand-in and accepted the award for me.
I got to meet a high school alum and fellow artist, Hellenne Vermillion. We'd never really met during high school because we were in different grades and I was a friend of her sister Yvonne. But with the internet and blogging we'd become virtual friends sharing ideas via emails so it was really nice to reconnect and meet face to face. I went over to her house, which any artist would envy - and got to see her paintings and silk fabric art. She's teaches silk fabric painting- I wish I had the time to stay to enroll in her class. Check out her blog and etsy site for her silk scarves.
Vacations are great but never long enough.

Blogger's Block, Nancy and Stuff like that!

This morning I sent my art pal Nancy Medina a quick email telling her I had Blogger's Block and hadn't written my blog in a week. She was kind enough to give me a kick in the butt (imagine that! she says I boss her around!!) and then emailed this photo of my painting display at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas and told me to blog about it! She went to drop off her paintings at the Gallery and saw that my paintings were on the wall and took the time to photograph it for me.
I'm so excited that my paintings are displayed with a "featured artist" sign under it!! Makes me feel important!! YAY!

On Sunday I stopped by the Dallas Arboretum to visit Nancy at the Artscape Art Fair. The weather was just perfect for the Artscape the flowers at the Arboretum wer magnificent. I'm sure she was inspired by all the blooms there. Here she is standing in front of her beautiful demo painting.

Thank you, Nancy!!

Sweet Rememberances - Vase of Sunflowers

A true friend is one who thinks you are a good egg even if you are half-cracked.
~Author Unknown
Nancy, my art friend blogged about me. I was trying to think of a good friend quote in response. I think this one is a perfect one. (She thinks I'm a funny friend - dunno if it's "funny - ha ha" or "funny - peculiar")
I think I must have still been thinking of Van Gogh when I painted this vase of flowers. I almost named it "Vincent's Flowers" but decided on:
"Sweet Rememberances"
Oil on Canvas, 14 x 11 x 3/4 inches
Palette Knife

Friends who talk about ART

Yesterday Nancy, Kim and I met at Fil's house to talk about art, projects we're working on, how to take good photos, how our past exhibits went, etc.

It was nice getting a "tour" of Fil's studio. She is so very organized that I realize that I have much to do. She's an inspiration!

Thank you, Fil, for hosting our little get-together, lunch, inspiration and canvas!!
