Christmas Angel Painting

"Angel, Do you See?"
14" x  11", Oil on Cradled Board
Available at Ugallery
A couple of months ago Ugallery contacted the artists to take part in their Advent Calendar special pricing by painting a Christmas/Wintry scene to be offered everyday for the 24 days of Christmas.  Mine was featured yesterday.

The inspiration for this painting came from the carols "Hark, the Herald, Angels Sing". and "Do you See What I See?"   The angel in my painting is heralding the good news when she sees the bright star.

The other day I had left a foam sheet in my front room.  This foam is left over from shipping a large painting so I didn't have any use for it.  But when I went out for about 10 minutes, my puppy, Ruby thought she'd check it out...

When I came home and found the foam and asked Ruby and my current foster dog, Faith what happened to it they said they didn't know, but looked pretty guilty, if you ask me....

In the Arms of An Angel, Palette Knife Angel Painting

"In the Arms of An Angel"
20" x  20" x 1.5", Oil on Canvas

A collector contacted me about a painting I'd done of an Angel Hug and wanted me to do another but with more colors.  This is a colorful version.  I hope she will like it - fingers crossed.

I posted this on facebook and asked for title suggestions and I like the title that I selected.  Others were "Angel Hug", "Colorful Hug".

Mother and Daughter Angel Commission

"Angela and Daughter"
14" x 11", Oil on Cradled Panel
Commissioned/Sold
I'm happy to paint commissions but at the same time I worry if I've captured the essence the commissioner has desired.  This is a mother and daughter angel painting.  It was fun to paint the colors are warm and the whole feeling is fun.  Pink boots too.

June Bride Angel

"I'm With You on this Special Day"
10" x 8 ", Oil on Board
This might seem a little poignant to paint a mother-like angel with a bride.  With June around the corner, I thought that this might be an angel someone would like to see.

Chocolate Martini Angel Commission

"Chocolate Martini Angel"
10" x  8", Oil on Board
I'd painted an angel holding a wine glass.  The painting sold and the buyer commissioned me to do another just like it, only this time the angel would be holding a chocolate martini.  It was given as an appreciation gift for an organizer of a charity.

It was nice doing a commission but sweeter still that it was for a charity gift.

Angel Palette Knife Painting with Grays

"I Know That You Feel Me Somehow"
8" x  8", Oil on Board
Drying on my easel right now.  Yippee!  I am feeling crazy happy right now.  I have a two commissions for "angel walking" paintings!  And the Gallery in Roswell, GA is asking for more angel paintings.  So this one, as soon as it dries is headed to Muse & Co...I like the colors in this one - gray and somber with a punch of yellow/orange in the frock.

Can someone be too busy?

"Tired"
8" x  8", Oil on Canvas
Available at the Dutch Art Gallery, Dallas, TX

The last post which was ages ago, I told you that I was doing a fix-up on a fixer in TX.  It has definitely been a wonderful ordeal.  Some days are good of course and some days are hell.  I have a handyman helping, of course but he's been MIA this past week - doesn't answer phone calls/txt's.

But I'm working on the things I'd planned to do myself....I am realizing that it is really hard to do things all on my own.  So it is slow.

So I have not been blogging as much nor painting....this is causing me to be a little blue  : (

This angel which I did paint and is on display at the Dutch Art Gallery, kinda says it - I'm tired....I think Angels can be tired too - after guarding sinners like us....lol

The Babe's An Angel - What do you put on the back of your paintings?

"The Babe's an Angel"
9" x  6", Oil on Canvas

I'm having fun with these angels.  The size of the canvas gave me the inspiration to get back on the angel paintings and I have had some requests for angels in pink boots since the donation for the Cancer Awareness.

What do you sign on the back of your paintings?

Recently I've bought from or traded paintings with other artists.  I love the art I received but there is a second reason why I like buying from other artists as well as trade with other artists.

I like to see how the art is presented, especially if it is mailed to me.  It is a learning experience for me.

Does the artist take time to make the packaging interesting?  If it's not, it makes me wonder if it is because the artist knows I'm a fellow artist?

How is it packaged?  Is it gift wrapped?  Is there marketing materials included in the packing?

So, here is my question to you - what do you put on the back of your painting?  Of course you probably sign it, title it, perhaps date it.  But do you write on the back of the painting the recipient's name?  A message to the recipient?

If it were me that last two questions are NO!  Unless this is a gift (and even then I'd say leave that off and write a note card instead).  Because artwork might be re-sold, or given to someone else.  I've bought paintings from other artists to give to my friends or family - but if on the back of it - there is a "thank you - Judy" - the product becomes useless to me!

My opinion and this is just my opinion, of course, but  unless the buyer specifies, "can you sign it with this -----" - don't put personal message on the back of your work.

Soul Mates - Angel with Dog Palette Knife Painting

"Unconditional Love"
10 x 8 inches, Oil on cradled panel
SOLD
Earlier this year I painted this and asked my friends what I should name this painting.  Made a contest of it.

I did have a winner and chose "Unconditional Love".

From that painting I received a commission - paint the same painting but with a dog of a different color because the collector's sister owns an elderly border collie and she wanted to have something to give her sister when the "time" came.  She sent me a photo of her sister's border collie, Fly.  That was this Spring and I wondered....

I received an email from her the other day that Fly has crossed the rainbow bridge and she gave her this painting to let her know that Fly will be alright.  The painting is called "Soul Mates" titled by my collector.  I really think all dogs go to heaven and I know they watch over us...I have a few dog angels looking out for me, I feel their presence and their protection.....

"Soul Mates"
10" x  8", Oil on Cradled board

My prayers go out to Fly and hope she is settling nicely in heaven.

Angel with Pink Cowboy Boots - Palette Knife Painting

"You Wear It Well"
10" x  10", Oil on Board
Available for purchase
$300 s/h included

A while back I painted an angel with Cowboy boots on.  On that post someone commented that if she were to have an angel she'd have on pink boots because she is a breast cancer survivor.  With that in mind I painted several angels with pink boots.    This is the third of those angels.  These angels with cowboy boots just seem to have an attitude - I like angels with attitudes.  Angels should have attitudes, they look out for us, afterall....HA! if you read this far - are you tired of reading the same words except for the "third"

I think painting in a series is good especially when you hit upon a good idea - this one because of a comment on one of my angel with cowboy paintings.  So this is the third of a pink boot series.
