Iris Oil Painting with Palette Knife

"Everything Else is Nothing"
6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board
I do have trouble coming up with interesting titles and sometimes fall back on something like "yellow tulips" "red roses".....just a descriptive title. I have nothing against descriptive titles but I guess I'd like to be able to come up with something charming and creative for my artwork. I once exhibited a painting of aspens which didn't have the word "aspen" in the title. Some viewers thought they were birch and some thought they were aspens - the viewers made up their own minds as to what they were seeing. I like that.
And yet I think a title of a painting plays a role in it's success. I have sold paintings after I've changed the title; is it a coincidence?
Last night I was chatting with a friend who typed this phrase. It was part of a longer sentence but I liked the sound of it...."everything else is nothing". So there you have it.
I am going to ask everyone who reads this blog a favor of doing one of the following. Please
1) Post your thoughts in the comments section
2) Tell a friend about my blog and paintings
3) Please subscribe to this blog
4) Email painting ideas, title ideas and comments to judy@judymackey.com
Thank you!
Cheers and Hugs,
Judy

Two Lemons

"Two Lemons"
12 x 12 x 3/4", Oil on Stretched Canvas
I have a question - Do you buy, rent and watch Art Instructional videos (or DVD's)? I've been asked several times about palette knife painting and Nancy Medina said, "Make a How-To" video... But do people find them useful?
Leave me a comment or email me: judy@judymackey.com
Thanks for your thoughts!

Painting at Book Carriage Book Store

What a beautiful painting day at the Book Carriage Bookstore and Coffee Shop. The owners, Larry and Angie opened this beautiful bookstore five months ago. They both appreciate art and have a loft area where they display art from local artists. A few of my paintings are displayed there currently. This weekend was a little "art fair" on the patio where some of the local artists gathered to paint together.

"Larry's Village
8 x 10 inches, Oil on Board, Palette knife

I got to bring out my favorite travel EasyL easle for the the event...I really need to use it more often so that I don't forget to bring all the supplies I might need. This time I forgot to pack a lighter yellow...I only had Cad Yellow Medium and Yellow Ochre! It was little windy but the temperatures were in the high '70's which made the paint dry faster than I could paint.

Serene Chaos - a painting of irises

I'm giving my paintbrushes a break and picked up the palette knife to paint. I know the title of this painting is a little bit of any oxymoron like "jumbo shrimp" but sometimes a word gets stuck in one's mind and the word for me has been "chaos". It's almost like a song that you hear over and over in your mind and can't get rid of until you try ever so hard to sing another song...
I'm looking at my desk - it's a chaos...I think I'll need to do some filing to get my mind off this word. But until I find another word to obsess about, this painting of a profusion of irises is titled:
