Although the box and movie "Fifty Shades of Gray" is abuzz right now, I wasn't thinking of it when I painted this series.  I was thinking of a color for the background - I didn't want to put in details - and in the process mixed Burnt Umber, Cerulean and White together and it came up with ta very warm gray which I've used here.  I think works well against the skin color and white shirt.

Saturday night painting with my painting friends sharing pizza and wine. What fun!! And what should I name this....well "Unprotected" was chosen. I think the title works on many levels.

The last painting I did "With Me" was on a gessoed hardboard and this one is on a Raymar board which has the canvas texture. I think I like the smoother gessoed board for paintbrush painting when I'm doing these smaller paintings, but I love these raymar board for when I'm painting with the palette knife. It just seems to have the "grab" that a smooth gessoed hardboard doesn't.

I heard Faith Hill's song on the radio the other day and I got to thinking that in no time at all it will be Valentines!! So inspired by the song "This Kiss" I painted this with a red background.

Distance

A customer who'd bought a 7x5 inch painting from me in the past asked if I had another small painting of "Distance" which was on my website to add to her small art collection. So I painted the smaller version. The reason I named it Distance was because although the couple sits together it just appeared that they were miles apart in thoughts and perhaps desires. They aren't even touching. So I'm not going to change the title of the smaller painting and am calling this one

"To See You Again" is a nude female figure painting. On this nude painting, I painted only with the brush and did not use the palette knife at all. I used loose brush strokes to achieve a minimal impressionistic realism.
