Time in a Bottle - Wine Glass Painting

"Time in a Bottle"
6 x 6 inches, Oil on Raymar Board, Paletten knife
I admit, when it comes to music I'm stuck in the '70's...
Jim Croce's song was playing when I was trying to think of a title of this wine painting - need I say more? For all the sweet people in this world, I dedicate this song...cheers!
Time in a Bottle
If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that Id like to do
Is to save every day
'Till eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you
If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you
But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That youre the one I want to go
Through time with
If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you
But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find themIve looked around enough to know
That youre the one I want to go
Through time with

Empty Promises - Painting of Wine Glass

"Empty Promises"
6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board, Palette Knife
"Loosen Up!" Vicki, our art teacher said to Mike, one of the students in our class..."Would a bottle of beer help me?" he mused, and reached into his cooler and opened a bottle...
I love painting with the palette because it keeps my strokes loose. Alright the title is a little sad but an empty glass .... well....

Sunshine - Painting of a Sunflower

"Sunshine"
6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board
Why is it that when you drop a buttered slice of bread it always lands buttered side down? When I was just finished taking a photo of this painting - of course in my impatience, the painting is fresh and wet - it drops! Plop! Face down. Gingerly I pick it up. Fortunately I had laid a sheet of disposable palette paper under the painting when I set it up to photograph, so not too much paint "stuck" and the painting was not ruined. My, my! I was lucky - this time.

Painting of Love

"Together"
6 x 6 inches, Oil on board
I've been having fun with these little love paintings, so here is yet another. And here is a romantic quote I liked and wanted to share:
"Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies."
--Aristotle
May your day be filled with love.

Seicento - Insomnia

"Seicento"

10 x 10 x 1.5 inches, Oil on Canvas

Have trouble sleeping? I do...so here's a poem I wrote years ago:

Insomnia

Could it be that the moon is too bright?
The sounds of the old house
settling in the dry dirt,
Dreams that give fright,
Sleep eludes me tonight

Soft breathing of someone enjoying his sleep,
Dripping of a faucet not closed tight
A dog standing sentry, barking
I fight off a mosquito,

A party that’s lasted too long
Distant sounds drift in-
Laughter, clink of glasses, undecipherable music
The “boom, boom” of the lowest notes.

An engine rumbles in the distance,
Re-living an old argument,
Ticking of an impatient clock,
Seconds, then minutes pass very loudly
As sleep eludes me tonight.

An owl sings a lonely song,
Cottonwood leaves rustling, sounding like rain
Re-living an old argument not won,
Reminders, to-do lists, chores left undone.

Mental exercises, self-hypnosis,
Fluff the pillow, sit up and read,
Drink warm milk,
Watch TV
Still – sleep eludes me tonight.

Painting of Love

"Kiss Me"
6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board
I just read a quote that made me chuckle since I've been painting these little figuratives.
"Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter."
--Oscar Wilde
OK....hmmmmm
I once asked Nancy Medina help on writing an artist statement for a show she organized in Flower Mound to benefit the Flower Mound Humane Society. She said I should write "I like painting flowers and things and nekkid people"... LOL

You really shouldn't say "I love you" unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget. --Author unknown, attributed to an 8-year-old named Jessica

Painting of a Girl in White Dress

"Girl in a White Dress"

6 x 6 inches, Oil on board
Available currently on Ebay.

I get too excited after finishing a painting that I want to take a photo of it right away. Dark areas shine so much. I should be re-reading R. Gariott's blog, who posts helpful photo tips on how to keep the shine out of the photos or photo-shopping it out.

I used the same limited palette colors which I used on the last two figuratives - don't want to waste the paints I've already squeezed onto my palette...I used Prussian Blue, Burnt Sienna, Magenta, Cad Yellow Light and White.

I've shared some songs in the last few posts - today I wanted to share some interesting and fun blogs - if you get a chance to visit let them know you've come to their blogs through mine - it's always fun to see where our readers come from.

Nolly Posh - a fun blog from down under and here's another, A Curates Egg.

If you like to challenge yourself with your paintings, try The Virtual Paintout.

And a blog titled "He Who Laughs Last Didn't Get It" - is cool - check it out...I just love the name of the blog (is it just me who starts to laugh just when everyone else just about finished laughing and now only chuckling?)

You've got to check out the Texas Daily Painters Blog, mainly because I belong to the group, YAY! and because there are so many beautiful paintings posted constantly by the wonderful artists of....you guessed it, Texas!!

A feast for inspiration, Every Photo Tells a Story ; this blog will open doors to other blogs.

And if you care for animals or paint animals check out, Art for Shelter Animals. If you donate your artwork to charities, consider a Shelter or Animal Rescue group and then send in your animal paintings to be posted there.

Happy Blog Reading...
