Pet Portraits

"Oliver"
5" x  5", Oil on Board

I love doing these "face" pet portraits.  This black standard poodle is Oliver.  It's hard to paint black and yet if you look closely - there are so many colors within black.  I added a little punch of red on the nose and some touches of blue around the eyes.  This was fun - I'll soon post a white dog that I painted.  White is definitely a lot tougher to paint!!

Thank you all for participating in the Gingko leaf painting "Yin and Yang" and for leaving me a guestbook comment.  I wrote everyone's name on little blue strips of paper...

We put the folded strips of paper into my favorite bowl....

My trusty assistant pulled one strip out of the bowl as I took photos.....

"Whispers of Perfume"
24" x  24" x 1.5", Oil on Stretched Canvas

Moody colors.  I was thinking that if I had to paint scent - it would be just whipers of perfume and soft moody like this....I love perfume!  I love perfume like crazy!  I hope you're not too allergic to it because I love perfume..... :)  But the two all time favorite perfume of mine have become discontinued!!!  One I've loved since high school - Christian Dior's Diorella....and the other Fendi....it used to be so common one could buy it at a discount clothing store for practically nothing and now - they sell it for nearly $300 on Ebay, sellers who have found bottles of it from some old inventory or used bottles.....I love Fendi because it matches my body chemistry and when I wear it I get the most compliments!  Oh dear Fendi - please bring back this classic perfume of yours!!! Please please!!!

Home of the Brave - Palette Knife Flag Painting

"Say, Can You See"
6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board

Oops oops oops - yesterday I posted the flag painting below and called it "Say, Can You See?" and it was supposed to be "Home of the Brave" - the last part of the song "The Star Spangled Banner"... these are similar and I painted them one right after the other.  They are the same size, an intimate 6 x 6 inches on Gessoboard.

Feeling Patriotic - Flags painting as tribute to Sept 11

"Say, Can You See"
6" x  6", Oil on Board

I read on an email that was circulating to remind us to display our flag on September 11 for the Ten Year Sad Anniversary of the Terrorist Attack on U.S.A.  This is my display.

I love painting flags - the colors really work well and with the palette knife - the texture seems to make the flag really look like they are billowing.  I painted another and will post tomorrow.  I took the first line of the Star Spangled Banner song and the last words for the titles.

Limoncello - Palette Knife Painting - Amalfi Lemons

"Limoncello"
24" x  30" x 1.5 inches, Oil on stretched canvas

I've been selling my art on Ugallery for the past few months.  Well for Labor Day, an email went out to the other artist seller which surprised me and made me happy!!  It had to do with a reply on their comment page which every artist on their site have - a buyer or a viewer might leave a comment for the artist and it is up to us to respond so I did:

Judy Mackey's Ulog
The email that the Ugallery staff send said and I'm only cutting and pasting a portion of it:

Greetings Everybody,

Happy September! The summer is coming to a close and as a gallery we couldn't be happier. The holidays are just around the corner, and we're ramping up oodles of exciting new site features to make sure we're ready for big time sales.

Heading into the new month, we have a few items to share:

1) Ulog selling points. Painter Judy Mackey wowed us recently with a great Ulog response (see above). Judy responded promptly and her tone is upbeat and personal.  She also casually shares some great site selling points:
1. Our 7-day trial (takes all the risk away from the buyer!)
2. We are a living site that posts new work by real artists every week (encourages buyers to come back).
3. Finally, she keeps her response focused. We've found that if a client is already interested in a specific piece, offering them up other work to consider on Ugallery or your personal site can overwhelm them with choice.  Focus on selling the piece they are already interested in.

I was honored and touched to be mentioned!!

A little on this painting above - Limoncello - the very strong alcoholic drink made from lemons.  Along the Amalfi Coast of Italy - there are lemon growers along the cliffs - known for their lemons and this strong liquor.  So this painting of a big bowl of lemons - it seemed appropriate to give it this title - available for purchase on Ugallery.
