Painting Outdoors

Nancy came over on Saturday to paint in my garden. Here she is, a little camera-shy, setting up in front of the irises.

I love my Easyl easel but have not used it much. We wanted to do a practice set-up as we'll be going to the Dallas Arboretum for their May Flowers Paint-Out next month.

Chartreuse

This painting is inspired by the Monastery of "Chartreuse" in France. It's nestled in a ring of mountains, quite hidden from the world. The monks do not talk. There was a film made about the monks which is interesting to watch, "Into the Silence". I say watch because there isn't much dialogue but it does give a glimpse of the monks' lives.

Smile - a painting of a yellow flower

Why not? Smile!
The wildflowers are starting beautify the highways and gardens are filling up with bright colors! Can you belive it - we have freeze warning tonight. I've just put some flowers in the flowerboxes on my patio -- I think I better bring them indoors for the night.
"Smile" Oil on Board, 5 x 5" - because a small yellow flower is like a warm smile. : )

Grapevine, Texas

If you're familiar with Grapevine, Texas and have driven on Dove Road, maybe you've seen Yates Corner Groc. on the intersection of Kimball. It is such a familiar sight that I've been meaning to paint it. The best time to capture it is during the morning hours as the grocery faces East.

I thought a local landmark might be nice for the New Vintage Wine Trail and Gallery Show I will be in this Saturday, April 19th in the Lancaster Theater in Grapevine, Texas.

A Circle of Friends

Yesterday, I met with fellow artists, Nancy Medina, Filomena Booth and Kim Norris for a little art-talk and coffee at Sandella's Cafe in Southlake. Painting and creating can sometimes become a very solitary endeavor, so getting together to share coffee, advice, brainstorm, ideas, opinions and of course laughter is so necessary to get inspired to get back to the easel.
Nancy and I are painting buddies, we take art classes together, paint together and have had several shows together. Fil, an abstract artist, has been my mentor and teacher giving me the kick to get this blog going and selling/marketing on-line. Kim is a pottery artist. I just love her bowls and have several of them. I am so lucky to have such wonderful, creative artists I can call friends!

Papa's Bedroom

From a vacation I took last year to Key West, Florida. Ernest Hemmingway's house is known to be a haven for six-toed cats. When we visited the Hemmingway house this day, a cat was snuggled on Papa Hemmingway's bed oblivious to the tourists that walked through the room.

Bluebonnets are in Bloom

We've had a week of gloomy skies, intermittent rain, thunder and even hail. The sun finally came out today so I went into my garden to take a photo of the bluebonnets which have bloomed this past week. Spring is here!
