Palette Knife Painting of a Dog Study - Stella

"Dog Study - Stella"
6" x  6", Oil on Board
Available on my Website, click this sentence to be sent there

This is from a photo I took of my dog, Stella.  I wanted to practice painting her because I might add it to a painting I have in mind.   Stella loves to go for walks even if it's to nowhere in particular.  She senses that it might be a walk if I put on either my tennis shoes or my gardening shoes.

And as I go outside, she'll usually walk a few steps ahead of me though she has no idea where I might be going.  I like indulging and walk a bit even if I' wasn't planning on taking a walk just to make her happy.  She has a "happy" walk, almost a skip sort of walk when she's walking with me.  And when I took this photo she didn't even know I was capturing her to use as a model some day in one of my paintings.

Ardent - Palette Knife Oil Painting

"Ardent"
6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board
$90.00 - Available

I've been painting angels and angels and angels it seems and this one was going to be a study for another "couple angel".  I had it sketched with my brown pencil but I didn't quite like it....it sat around in my stack of 6 x 6 boards waiting it's fate.

So this afternoon as I was looking for another board to tone to get ready for more painting I grabbed this board and was going to wipe the pencil sketch off with some turpentine when I realized that the posture of the two was rather nice.   I outlined it with some brown paint and then the next bit was to put down red for the dress - suddenly it came alive.  I didn't want to mess with it and lose that "feeling"....because it was when I painted the red the word "Ardent" popped in my head.

This painting came together so quickly and I'm really pleased with it...I hope you will feel the same way too.

Palette Knife Painting of Angel Hug

"He said, It might be silly, it might be trite but I want to protect you"
14 x 11 inches, Oil on Canvas

The other day I put one of my newer Angel paintings, I haven't posted that one here on blogger yet, on Facebook and asked for title recommendations.   I received a lot of good ones!!  Well this title, well, yes....
It's long.  But it was the inspiration from which this painting started and it just seemed too fun to not write it all down as a title....why not...

This is a painting of an angel, hugging and holding a person in yellow chemise.  It just felt right.

My Fav Tool!!

A few years ago I found this really cool screwdriver at our local garden center.  If you know me and ever are with me when I need to use this baby, you will here me tell you that this is my favorite!  I just love looking at this beautiful tool and yeah, it's handy.

This is one of the types of screwdrivers that you can change from plus to minus......ok, guys I'm sorry that isn't the terminology - Phillips and Johnson...for that matter I used to not know which way to turn in order to tighten or loosen until I was watching a "Sewing with Nancy" TV show on PBS when she mentioned "Lefty Lucy (loose-y), Righty Tidy (tighty)....so, now I'm a pro at using a screwdriver!  YAY!

And then.....

I was shopping at the Montgomery Street Antique Mall in Fort Worth and stumbled upon beautiful floral designed tool.  There were hammers, tape measures and voila a paper cutter.  This particular paper cutter has a very similar design as my screwdriver, at least the colors are very close so I had to buy it to match my beautiful screwdriver.

Do Angels Exist?

"I'm Here"
8 x 8 inches Oil on Raymar Board
Available - CLICK HERE

Another from my series on Angels.  this started as an angel holding an umbrella but I was not really happy with it.  So actually this is a re-do - repaint - fixed up - painting.  I still wanted the angel to hold an umbrella - maybe I got that idea from an insurance ad, nonethelsss,

I think angels do look out for us......so here is one holding out an umbrella to protect us from the storms.  I changed the postion of her arms and her body and changed the color to a more soothing softer shade using the same pallete as the painting I'd done earlier called Angel Thoughts.

The arm positoning was a suggestion from my painting buddy, Barbara whom I paint with nearly every week.  It's good having a painting buddy to paint and talk art with.  In a sense, she's my painting angel.  So if you haven't got one, do find someone to paint with.  It "makes" you paint - which is a good thing.

Angel Thoughts, Palette Knife Painting by Judy Mackey

"Angel Thoughts"
10 x 10 inches, Oil on Raymar Board
Available for purchase.

I've been accepted into the Figurative Artists International blog!  My figurative paintings are sometimes fantasies as depicted by my angel series.  This particular painting started out with an Angel doing something else and I actually painted the arms up and outstretched. But after staring at this piece for a while, I decided to tone down the colors, making it misty and keeping the angel a little closed and pensive.

Palette Knife Painting, Gladiolus by Judy Mackey

"Gladiolus"
28x22 inches, Oil on Canvas

It's a gray day here so taking a photo of a larger painting is challenging.

I wanted to paint something "quiet" more dreamy - so I did this very lavender/blue painting of glads.  There are just a little touch of red here and there but it may be a little tough to see in this smaller photo of the painting.

Valentine Thoughts - If you are apart from your Sweetie

"Alone Tonight"
6 x 6 inches, Oil on Raymar Board

Does distance separate you from your Sweetie this Valentine's?   I've been posting artwork for sale that would be appropriate for gift giving this Valentine's Day.  Yes, flowers and chocolates are wonderful gifts - dang! I wouldn't turn those down at all!

But I remembered this little painting I did when I was travelling and far from the one I love.
The empty bed.
Wishing it was shared.

I'm sure there is someone out there that this painting would make a wonderful gift to give to their special someone, sending the message that "I am  alone tonight, wish you were here"

It's on auction - click on the words above to bid on it.  Thank you for looking!

Valentine's Day is the time to give Roses
