Texas Star, the Lone Star State Flag by Judy Mackey

"Texas Star"
20" x  20" x 1.5", Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
Currently on display at The Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, TX.

Received a phone call late last night from the Gallery that the Texas Star flag painting is out on "loan" to a prospective buyer who will see if the painting will fit in their spaces.  Fingers crossed.

I suppose this is good business practice and galleries who have good relationships with their collectors will sometimes let the collector take it home to see how the painting will do in their homes/offices/lighting/spaces etc.  This may lead to a sale of course but the best part of it is that the buyer will then be a very satisfied buyer.

I painted a couple of Texas flags in this manner.  It isn't meant to be a torn flag but rather an unfinished painting of just the center of the flag in a rippled, shadowy look with the edges fading into a black background.

Keep your fingers crossed ♥

Texas Star, Texas State Flag Palette Knife Painting

"Texas Star"
24" x  24" x 1.5", Oil on Canvas
$1000.00

My first try at this sort of loose, almost abstract painting of the Texas flag turned out so well that I had to try it again.  The first one, "Lone Star" is on exhibit from Mar 2 to April 17th at the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau on Main Street in Grapevine, TX as part of the Grapevine Art Project's 2013 Juried Art and Sales event.  Stop by the Convention and Visitor's Bureau if you're visiting Grapevine to see over 100 works by local artists.

Lone Star Flag

"Lone Star"
24" x  24" x 1.5", Oil on Stretched Canvas

I loved painting the U.S. flag so I thought I'd do the Texas Flag - I didn't paint to the edges and let it fade to the black that I pre-painted the canvas with - I like the way this turned out and may try a few more like this.

Feeling Patriotic - Flags painting as tribute to Sept 11

"Say, Can You See"
6" x  6", Oil on Board

I read on an email that was circulating to remind us to display our flag on September 11 for the Ten Year Sad Anniversary of the Terrorist Attack on U.S.A.  This is my display.

I love painting flags - the colors really work well and with the palette knife - the texture seems to make the flag really look like they are billowing.  I painted another and will post tomorrow.  I took the first line of the Star Spangled Banner song and the last words for the titles.
