Embrace, Hugs, Tenderly

"Tenderly"

6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board

I listen to songs when I paint. This song, "Magic" was playing. It is such a sweet, loving song. So here is a YouTube of Colbie Caillat singing it, hope it inspires you too.

Kisses

"Kisses"
6 x 6 inches, Oil on Board
Summertime...hot and steamy. That's the weather here in North Texas after our much needed rain.
I love you! How easy is that? To look your darling in the eye and say "I love you!" Every loving relationship however needs a kick in the pants, a little nurturing, a little pat on the back, a little romance".
A past post on a blog I like to read called "On Simplicity" lists 37 ways to say "I love you". I think these ideas are great if in case you need a little help.
And how about just being nice to the person you love. Don't judge, don't nag, don't second guess - just be nice.
Add Stevie Wonder's song "I Just Called To Say I Love You"....
If you're a romantic and would like to purchase this painting please email me at the address on the sidebar.

Trees, Trees, Trees - Painting of Trees

"Sunlight"

14 x 14 x 3/4 inches

Oil on Canvas

Another in this series of trees. I had a painting similar to this at a show a few months ago. Fortunately for me it sold but there was a young man who was interested to know if I'd paint another. Yes, of course I will be painting trees and more trees. Since this subjecct matter is something I like doing, I know I will continue to paint trees. I should branch out (pun, of course) and paint other trees.

First Love, the Love Bug

"First Love"
20 x 24 x 3/4 inches
Oil on Canvas, Painted with the Palette Knife
Actually my first car was the Honda Civic - many, many years ago when the Honda Civic was a small little bug of a car. I wonder how many of you did start with a Volkswagon Bug? Gosh, they're still cute.

Last Friday, my painter pal Nancy Medina had a show at Stems in Grapevine. This is such a great photo of her and her husband, Carlos.

Per Te - A Painting of Roses

"Per Te"
20 x 16 x 3/4 inches, Oil on Canvas
Available
$300 + s/h

I named this painting "Per Te" on the spur of the moment and then googled it to see if I could come up with some sweet saying, poem or lyric when I found this by song by Josh Groban. Although I know who he is, I don't think I've really listened to him music. These lyrics are beautiful - click here - for the translation and the whole poem.

Contemparay Landscape

"Staking My Claim"
18 x 22 inches, Oil on Canvas

I think my painting subject matter is a little eclectic. Eclectic? OMG - I've been doing pet portraits (btw three of my pet portraits were accepted into the Irving Art Association's Unconditional Love, Juried Pet Portrait exhibit - YAY!!), nudes, flowers, cubes - boxes??, and now these very abstract landscapes - yes, I am a little eclectic. OK so I painted a very abstract landscape the other day which depicted my mood.

I started this painting the other day, scraped it off, repainted it, scraped it off and then re-painted again today. Again - my mood was a little down...but now that the painting is finished I find that painting is therapy for me. "Staking My Claim" is from a snippet of a conversation with a friend.

I'm not into other mediums; I don't do acrylics, watercolors or mixed media so having so many different subjects, inspirations seems to suit my style. I attended Tony Saladino's Art Critique class yesterday and we were talking about how his art, although he is painting abstract now instead of more representational art is still recognizable as "his". I told him I really liked his paintings but could never copy his colors because the although we can squeeze out the same colors from the same tube we all tend to have our own colors. He said he's starting to recognize my colors. It's the highest compliment.

A photo from my studio - I've toned another canvas with the Chinese character for "love" painted - my paintings are with love.

Box, Cube, Square

"Hallways, Always"
20 x 20 x 1.5 inches, Oil on Canvas
While a too descriptive title might detract from a painting, I think a title of some sort is necessary to give a little kernel of information. Gets one thinking, why did the artist name this painting such. I think abstracts are really hard to title. Well I think a lot of my painting are...I mean, I've got "pink flowers", "pink flowers in vase", "pink flowers in blue vase", "blue vase"...we can see that - it doesn't make for a conversational topic...And sometimes the title is too descriptive that it takes away the imagination and shrinks the audience. Place names do that for me. I had a seascape on exhibit once and was amazed at how many people guessed the wrong beach. The title did not say "blankety blank beach" so it was really up to the imagination of the viewer.
Sometimes I get an idea for a painting after I've come up with a neat title, or sometimes the painting just has that particular feeling for a title - like my last painting - I really was going to call it "Deep Funk"!
This title, "Hallways, Always" has been rattling in my thoughts for a couple of weeks now when I first started to paint the cubes. It doesn't make much sense, I know. So sometimes the title is just so weird it's as though an artist has titled their work of art, "Untitled"...
Please let me know it you like "Untitled" for a title of a painting in my comments section.

Quietly, It Rains

"Quietly, It Rains"

22 x 24 x 3/4 inches, Oil on Canvas

I was not feeling very happy when I painted this painting...a little melancholia, a little sadness, a little blue and maybe a little angry. I wanted to paint my mood in this very abstract landscape. I really did plan to title this piece "Deep Funk", but decided against it.
