Selling Art - My Pet Peeve

"Gerbers"
7" x  5", Oil on Board
SOLD to a Collector in Corinth, TX

I have a thought I'd like to voice my pet peeve.  I own two blogs - The Daily Painters of Georgia and the Palette Knife Painters and I volunteer as the Membership chair of the Artists of Texas/Daily Painters of Texas blog and website.  So I get a lot of emails from artists who want to join one of the groups.

There's many reasons why an artist would want to join a site.  I know why I want to.  I want to get more exposure so that I can sell more paintings.  Simple.

I guess I suppose that I assume artists who apply to join the group are professionals....well, actually most are. Most often have some web pressence and that's probably how they found "us".

So here's my suggestion and pet peeve - get your own email address.

I understand that some artists are new and just starting their "careers" and have not gotten their domain name and address.  (That would be my next advice and suggestion - get  your own domain.)

(But before the domain)  Get your own email address address AND make sure that the name that shows up on the senders is yours..... Even if you use Hotmail/gmail or yahoo -  Don't use your spouse's or a family/group/etc....please.  If you are Jane Doe and the email shows a message from John Doe  or Doe Family - I don't know who I'm responding to or whether "jane" is reading my emails....Clients won't know either and it looks too unprofessional.

Thanks for listening!

The pink gerberas are beautiful, a lovely painting ... they are one of my favorite flowers. :)

Great advice, Judy. It reminds me of when I was interviewing people at work. It would always make me cringe when the email on their resume was something like hotchick@gmail.com.

Thank you Dianne - I love gerbers too - although one has to prop their heavy heads :)
Hugs, Judy

Ann - you are soooo right - one of my former lives was as an executive recruiter and yes - getting resumes via email like hotchick@whatnot really made me not want to look at it....

Cheers,

Judy
