Stars and Stripes

Last week, just before Christmas, I had coffee with Texas Contemporary Abstract Artist, Deanna Kienast who paints huge huge abstracts.   I'd painted several of these "close up" of the American Flag but on a small scale, six by six inches and she suggested I try a larger version.  So here it is.
It is kind of hard to tell what size this is looking at this photo of painting because all of the background is cropped out.
But here is a photo of the work-in-progress painting sitting on my easel:

I'd just blocked in colors.  I actually like the blocked in colors, except that the starts are not quite right yet.
Here is a view of a detail of the finished painting.  There are a lot of unexpected colors in the flag - such as yellow and green:
