"On Guard" - Vatican's Swiss Guard

The Swiss Guards have for centuries watched over Vatican City. Although they dress in a colorful renaissance costume, they are well trained, courageous and loyal Military Soldiers who protect the Pope. Click on this link to read about their history - it's rather interesting.

Swiss Guard of Vatican City, Rome

This young man standing proud and colorful is a Swiss Guard who watches the Vatican City in Rome. I love the shape of his uniform as well as the bright colors.

Small painting - 7 x 5 inches, on gessoed masonite.

This painting is from a photo Michela took while she was visiting Rome last summer.
