I had white on my palette after having painted Ozzy so here's a white dog. "Tyson" is a friend's white boxer pup. I thought a black cat was a tough subject to paint - white is another interesting color. There really isn't any pure white on the whitest parts and the shadows take on so many different colors. I loved painting these two white pets. My friend Nancy Elstad sent me some quotes by John Singer Sargent. He insisted that his student paint from models and not of their friends because "If you paint your friends, they and you are chiefly concerned about the likeness." This might hold true when painting friend's pets - I try too hard to make the painting look like their cats and dogs when I should be more loose and just try to paint.

Sargent's quote is definitely true about people but I think pet owners are not looking for an exact likeness just something that gives them the essence of their furry friend!
