I used to go out sailing with my husband on our Hobie 21 with pink sails. There were times when the winds would die and we'd wait for what seemed forever for some little bit of a breeze to fill our sails. In times like this we'd push the main sail to one side and the jib sail to the other...

What do you Savor?

In our busy run-around-like-a-chicken-with-it's-head-cutoff days, do you take time to enjoy something? Anything? Like birds chirping outside your window? Watching a puffy cloud move along the blue skies? Catching your favorite song on the radio as you start up the engine of your car?

Well yesterday I was driving along a major road when I noticed a little traffic congestion. As I pulled up I saw what was happening. A family of geese were crossing the road on foot. Cars on four lanes of the major roadway were all stopped to let the geese cross. No one got impatient. There were 6 or 7 adult geese, a number of young adolescents and 4 or 5 baby geese. The babies would not have been able to fly. It was interesting to watch a couple of the adults up front, a couple along the sides with the "teenagers" and a couple adults bringing up the rear. The babies did not walk in a straight line, but the adults kept them moving across the road.

It made me smile.

I was glad to have witnessed that procession. I savored the moment.

I had so much fun making the first YouTube video that I asked my friend Hiroshi Takatani to help me by writing me an original melody to go with it. He wrote this hauntingly beautiful tune and called it "Silhouette" which sounds perfect for the groupings of paintings I used in this video.

Up until now, I'd done all my pet portraits with the brush and on a smaller scale. This particular painting is from a previous one I'd done with a brush and I use this image on some of my business cards. It's a palette knife painting of my own dog an English Pointer mix, Stella so it's not for sale but I'd be very happy to paint your special pet. I like painting with the palette knife...I was reading Monica Burnett's blog this morning thinking, yeah, me too, I like painting with the palette knife.

Have you ever noticed that when you buy a new car and you drive around with the buzzy feeling of "oh! I've got a new car" happy feeling - then suddenly you see a similar or same car or same color car. Then you see another, and then another, and yet another and then you feel like you're surrounded by them???

I've been noticing that about palette knife painters....maybe I hadn't noticed before but there are a good number of us! And that's why I started the blog, "Palette Knife Painters" and we're growing.

By the way, you've got to read Monica's blog about how Coulton Waugh, a palette knife artist, names his palette knives...what a funny thought - to name your knives. Do you name your knives? Or brushes? Let me know if you do!

Oh, dear, dear - my blog disappeared. I posted yesterday but wasn't paying attention perhaps when I walked away from my computer. So, this morning when I sat at the computer the blog post was not on the blog...hmmmm -

This is the third of the gray paintings. I liked doing these so much that I painted a couple of more in a similar style and will be posting those in the next upcoming posts, as soon as they are a little drier and I can handle them enough to take photos of them.

I had the gray palette mixed and like any good frugal painter gal I didn't want it to go to waste so I decided since I was on a roll, to paint another female figurative painting with the same color scheme. This one was actually the third and final one. A little naughty...I know, I know...a little provocative, a little sleepy, forget the big fat Sunday papers....how about a little Sunday Brunch, instead...

I like mixing paints to make grays. I actually like it. My favorite mixture is burnt sienna, cerulean and titanium white - which I've used for the background color. The dress was french ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and titanium white.

I had a good painting evening yesterday, listening to my mp3 player playing soundtrack music from the movie "Notting Hill". I especially like the song "She". (I have been thinking to use that as a title one of these days.) Anyways, it was a productive evening and I painted 3 female figuratives which I will be posting here in the coming days. All of them use the grays I mentioned.

It was a gray day.

A study for a larger painting - I liked how the purples looked in this painting.

Last month I did a Spring Cleaning and sold many of my paintings on Ebay; it was a success and allowed me to really make space for new paintings and new inspirations. Some part of me is worried that I don't have inventory and another part of me is feeling free.

This past few days, as part of my "cleaning" I was looking at some of my pieces that I wasn't quite happy with. I have painted over a few of them and touched up and added things on others. I feel like the process was definitely worth it! I am re-liking some of my older paintings!

It really feels good to take the cobwebs that were cluttering my creative spirit!

I am excited!! Crazy happy, can't stop smiling, feeling on top of the world. A couple of days ago Katherine who writes "Making a Mark" Blog mentioned the new group blog I started "Palette Knife Painters".

We have a wonderful group of palette knife painters contributing to it. I love opening the daily email updates I received from Feedburner to which I'm subscribed even though it's my own blog. Each artist is so talented, I look at the new paintings and I'm immediately inspired and ready to squeeze some fresh paint on the palette and do another painting.

I hadn't painted in a while so I was looking around my painting inspirations when I saw my tubes of paint...primary colors...basic tubes of colors and that became my inspiration!
